The Communications Division consists of Police Communications Officers, more commonly known to the public as dispatchers, who are the primary answering point for all emergency and non-emergency requests for police. Communications Officers most often dispatch officers to calls via computers outfitted in each patrol car known as Mobile Data Browsers. The system enables officers to have wireless computer communication with police dispatch and helps minimize radio traffic to free up channels for high priority calls. Like the Patrol Division, the Communications Division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
