WHEREAS, Black History Month affords special opportunity to become more knowledgeable about black heritage, and to honor the many black leaders who have contributed to the progress of our nation; and
WHERAS, the City of Bossier City recognizes and celebrates Black History Month by honoring a few standout leaders in our community; and
WHEREAS, Winnifred Hollingsworth Jackson is known for breaking barriers. She currently holds professional licenses in law, finance, and sports. Winnifred earned securities licenses at a time, when only a few women worked in asset management and trading. After her employment at one of the largest multinational financial service corporations, she entered law school graduating at the top of her class. She began her legal career as a civil rights attorney at Louisiana Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, and later opened a private law firm in Louisiana. She accomplished all of this while overseeing a successful family business. She has served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and licensed funeral director of Good Samaritan Funeral Home in Shreveport for nearly twenty (20) years. She is also the founder of The Hollingsworth Group, a sports management and talent agency. Throughout her career, Winnifred has represented various plaintiffs including professional athletes in the NFL and NBA, models, entertainers, and film directors. Following enrollment at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 2015, Winnifred obtained certification as an NFL Contract Advisor. She is also a NBA, WNBA and FIBA (international basketball) agent; and
WHEREAS, Winnifred H. Jackson is an excellent example of leadership. Her confidence, determination and hard work has made a difference wherever she called home. The City of Bossier City is honored to recognize Ms. Jackson. Thank you, for making our community a better place.
NOW, THEREFORE, I THOMAS H. CHANDLER, Mayor, of the City of Bossier City, do hereby proclaim TUESDAY, February 21, 2023, as “Black American Leadership Recognition Day” in Bossier City, and ask our citizens to join us in honoring these outstanding Black American Leaders whose lives have shaped our community.
