Traffic Street will be closed to thru traffic from Ogilvie Street to Broadway Street from February 18th until February 22nd. The closure will be in effect so that crews can conduct demolition work on the Kansas City Southern railroad bridge which is being replaced as part of the Traffic Street widening project.
Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists to Hamilton Road as an alternative north-south route between East Texas Street and Barksdale Boulevard.
The $9 million dollar project to widen Traffic Street from Barksdale Boulevard to Broadway Street began last month and is expected to take approximately one year to complete. It will involve widening that portion of Traffic Street from two lanes to five lanes and will include a middle turn lane.
The project is being funded with money from a 2007 $100 million bond issue designated for transportation improvements. The City is utilizing riverboat casino tax revenue to pay off the bond.
