The Bossier City Fire Department responded to a house fire overnight in the 1600 block of Field Street that resulted in a 17-year old girl sustaining cuts and burns.

The call came in at approximately 3:45 a.m. The first engine company arrived on the scene within two minutes and found the home fully engulfed. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control before it did heavy damaged to the home and destroyed a car that was parked under a carport.

A 17-year old girl appears to have been the only occupant inside the house at the time of the fire. She tells firefighters that she was asleep and woke up upon smelling smoke. She made her escape from the burning house by breaking out a window. As a result she received cuts to her hands and neck. She also suffered burns to her hands, shoulder and arm. Fire department personnel took her to LSU Hospital in Shreveport for treatment of what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The fire appears to have started in a front bedroom and quickly spread through most of the house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
