The Bossier City Fire Department responded to a structure fire Monday night that destroyed a house in the 900 block of Rome Street. A neighbor called 911 at approximately 6:20 p.m. and reported the fire upon seeing smoke coming from the house. The first crews arrived on scene within three minutes and found flames in the rear the house.

Firefighters entered the structure and managed to put out a portion the fire that was inside however the flames had already spread to much of the attic. Firefighters attempted to access the attic to get to the flames but where hampered by the home's thick wooden shiplap ceiling. The fire quickly spread throughout the attic and through the roof, causing on scene command to order firefighters out of the house and attack the blaze in a defensive mode.

Due to size and intensity of the flames it took firefighters about 50 minutes to bring the fire under control. The house and its contents were destroyed. The two people who lived in the house were not at home at the time of the fire. No firefighters were injured. At one point as many as two dozen firefighters were on the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
