In order to speed up the completion of the Traffic Street widening project, Traffic Street will remain closed to thru traffic from the Horseshoe Casino entrance to Broadway Street through the summer. By keeping the road closed for this extended period of time, it's estimated the contractor will be able to finish the project by September, well ahead of the original completion date of Spring of 2012. That portion of Traffic Street has been closed for the past month while the work is being done.

During the continued closure of Traffic Street, signs will remain in place on I-20 informing motorists to use Hamilton Road to get to the Louisiana Boardwalk. Detour signs will also remain in place to direct motorists to use Hamilton Road as an alternative north-south route between East Texas Street and Barksdale Boulevard. Motorists will still be able to access Horseshoe Casino from I-20 via Traffic Street.
