POSITION TITLE:  Part-Time Field Maintenance Worker I 


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Employee will be under immediate supervision and will be responsible for completing work of routine difficulty.  Employee will not be permitted to work more than twenty-five (25) hours per week.  Work schedule (hours per day/week) and number of hours worked will be set by BPAR based on BPAR budget and need.  He or she may be required to operate a tractor, lawn mower, weed eater, edger, gas blower, electric power tools, electric buffing machine, power washer, operate city vehicles (must have a valid Louisiana driver's license), etc.  Examples of work performed: Cuts grass using push mower, power driven lawnmower, tractor with mowing attachment, weed eater, stick edger, power blower, sweeps, mops, dusts, scrubs, replenishes bathroom supplies, and cleans bathrooms.  Picks-up trash, empties trash, cleans windows, doors, walls, and lighting fixtures.  He or she will required to plant flowers, shrubs and trees, as well as trim and weed flowers, bushes, and trees.  Employee will be required to make minor repairs, paint, and perform other housekeeping tasks.  Employee will also be required to assist with athletic field preparation and general upkeep of all assigned areas.  Employee will required to perform "other related duties" as required or assigned. 


EDUCATION REQUIRED:  Completion of the eighth grade or equivalent and some experience in the operation of mowing equipment and grounds and gardening work.  He/she must possess the physical stamina, manual dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination and the ability and willingness to follow instructions.  He or she must have the ability to work tactfully and harmoniously with staff and the general public.  A "neat, well-groomed, appropriately dressed appearance" is required.  Three to five years of job related work experience preferred.


EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:  Employee must demonstrate his or her ability to perform assigned tasks.  He or she must have above average dexterity in using hands, fingers, and eye-hand-foot coordination.  The ability and willingness to follow instructions are one of the most significant requirements.  Most work performed by the employee will be done outside, in all kinds of weather. This job requires standing, bending, walking, crawling, and moderately heavy lifting.
