The total number of crimes decreased 4% in Bossier City during 2011 compared to the previous year according to statistics released today by the Bossier City Police Department.
In 2011 there were a total of 10,534 crimes. That figure is the lower than the 11,015 crimes reported in 2010, which at the time was the lowest number of total reported crimes in Bossier City since 1981 when the number stood at 10,868.
The total number of major crimes in 2011 also dropped slightly in Bossier City compared to 2010. This marks the ninth consecutive year that Bossier City has experienced a decreased in total major crimes which combined include murder, rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, theft and auto theft.
The number of murders increased in 2011 with 9 and included a triple homicide, a drug overdose and two killings that were the result of separate murder-suicides. Aggravated assaults, burglaries, armed robberies and auto thefts also increased while rapes and thefts were down from the previous year.
