Solid Waste

The Solid Waste Division of Public Works was put in place to improve services to citizens. The division manages the Solid Waste contract for pick-up services with the City of Shreveport. The division also operates the Recycling Center and performs litter pick up services throughout the City.

Municipal Solid Waste Collection Services

Residential and designated business solid waste and residential yard waste is collected once each week in Bossier City. Please contact the office with questions regarding your pickup day and holiday schedule changes.

Residences having curbside pickup will be provided with a 96 gal trash cart on wheels. Please contact the office if you need a trash cart to be delivered or if repairs need to be made to an existing cart. Household garbage and trash must be bagged and containerized in the 96 gal trash cart. Residents with curbside pickup may request an additional city cart for a charge of $4.00 per month added to the sanitation portion of their water bill. A regulation trash can purchased by the resident may be used at no additional charge. The monthly charge for curbside pickup is $16.00 per month billed on the water bill.

Residences having backdoor or side yard pickup must provide their own trash receptacles or can have one of the city carts for a charge of $4.00 per month extra. A city trash cart will be For curbside pick up of large items, such as an appliance, call Solid Waste at least one day before your scheduled pick up day (residential only). A different truck than your usual truck will remove these large items

Commercial locations with city trash pickup must have all garbage containerized in the 96 gal trash cart provided by the city. Any extra trash or items too large to be placed in City ordinance number 153 mandates that waste receptacles and solid waste not be placed on the curb more than 24 hours before the sanitation truck arrives and that waste receptacles be removed from the curb within 24 hours after collection.

Yard Waste

Yard waste must be containerized separately from household garbage and trash. Grass clippings, leaves, pine straw, shrub clippings, garden waste and leaves must be containerized like household garbage and trash, and placed on the curb. Tree limbs and large shrubbery clippings, up to 6 feet in length and 8 inches in diameter, must be stacked on the curb neatly. Please call the office in advance if there is a large amount.

Used Tire Collection Service

Residents may request that their used tires be collected from their curbside by calling the Solid Waste Office. These tires, which come from private vehicles, are collected by the City and recycled.

Transfer Station

A solid waste transfer station is located at 3223 Old Shed Road, between Tinsley Park and the Recycling Center. The fee for waste disposed from residential locations inside the city limits of Bossier City is $5.00 for the first 400 lbs and $3.50 for each additional 400 lbs. The fee for wasted disposed from residential areas outside the city limits of Bossier City and commercial locations is $12.00 for the first 400 lbs and $3.50 for each additional 400 lbs. Please call ahead if you have questions regarding any items you intend to bring.

Recycling

The Bossier City Recycling Center is located at 3001 Old Shed Road, between Hwy 80 and Shed Rd. It is accessible from Crowing Lane and Tinsley Blvd and from the Old Minden Rd extension. Individuals may deposit the following materials 24 hours a day. Drop-off bins are under a well-lit, drive-through area, which is protected from the weather. Materials accepted and required preparation is:

  • Clear Plastic - #1 PET soda bottles (Discard lids and rinse.)
  • Cloudy Plastic - #2 HDPE Water, Milk and Juice Jugs (Discard lids and rinse.)
  • Cans - (Rinse and containerize aluminum cans separately from steel and tin cans.)
  • Newspaper and Telephone books
  • Mixed Paper
Corrugated Paper/Cardboard - (Flatten boxes.)

The following materials must be brought to the Recycling Center when the center is manned from 7:00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. , Monday through Saturday.

  • Used Motor Oil
  • All Scrap Metal And White Goods (appliances)
  • Tires
