Mayor Lorenz "Lo" Walker
As Chief Executive Officer, the Mayor
holds the responsibility and performs a number of services
that lend to the effective operation of the City. The Mayor
directs and supervises the administration of all divisions,
departments, officers and agencies of the City. Heads of
departments are directly appointed by, and report to, the
Mayor. The Mayor also appoints members of authority and
commission boards, prepares and submits legislative programs
to the City Council, and directs long and short-range planning
for the city in the areas of economic development, community
development, research and technology, urban planning and
historic planning.
In City government operations, the Mayor
submits the annual budget and five-years capital improvement
program and a complete public report on finances and administrative
activities at the end of each fiscal year. The Mayor keeps
the City Council advised as to the financial condition
and future needs of the city and makes recommendations,
as he deems desirable.
The Mayor shall be required and have the power to:

Enforce all City laws and ordinances.

Appoint, suspend or, when necessary,
remove for just cause all officers and employees of
the City as specified by the City Charter or other
law or personnel rules adopted pursuant to the charter.

Exercise administrative supervision and control over
all City departments.

Speak as any council member, but shall not have the
power to vote at any time.
Have the power to veto in writing any
ordinance passed by the council. The council may override
the veto of the Mayor if five (5) members vote in favor
of the ordinance.
