Billie Stevens
In 1950 Ms. Stevens became librarian at the new Benton branch of the Bossier Parish Library. Dealing with the needs of a fledgling library in a rural area, Ms. Stevens helped to operate a book mobile, took care of all the ordering, processing and delivering of Parish school library books, was a ‘handy woman’ who fixed the plumbing or painted walls, presented book reviews to various clubs, brought books to prisoners and, in a pre-computer age, would go the extra mile to locate outside materials for a patron.
