Hoffman L. Fuller 1937-1953
Hop Fuller has the distinction of being the first mayor to be actually born in Bossier City, in 1899. He graduated from Bossier High School and studied law at Centenary College.
In 1916, Fuller joined the National Guard for service in Mexico. He was then off to Europe to fight in the First World War. When he returned to Bossier he got a job with the Illinois Central Railroad from 1918 to 1937.
As with the early mayors, Fuller acted as city court judge as well as police chief during his sixteen years in the mayor’s office. Furthermore, he served as the director of the war rationing program in the 1940s.
Bossier City’s incorporation from a town to a city on 9 August 1951 was certainly a highlight of Mayor Fuller’s term. But he is also remembered for his promotion and organization of the Bossier-Shreveport Transportation Co.
After leaving the mayor’s office in 1953, Fuller worked for Bossier City Utilities until his death in June of 1983.
