Don E. Jones 1984-1989
Don Jones was born on 10 July 1949 in Bossier City. He graduated from Bossier High School and Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana. He became mayor in 1984 at the age of 32 after having served as national president of the Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce).
One of the toughest challenges he faced while mayor was a limited budget. Bossier City, like most of Louisiana, suffered from an oil and gas recession. Yet Jones oversaw the passage of the bond issue to begin Arthur Ray Teague Parkway and completion of the Bossier City Municipal Complex that houses all city offices, the fire and police departments and the Convention Center. There was also a private construction boom in the city at the time. It was during this period that many homes, including subdivisions such as Green Acres Place and Carriage Oaks were built.
After serving as mayor, Don Jones continued his civic involvement by sitting on the board of many committees and councils in the Shreveport/Bossier Area.
