Greetings friends, neighbors, and visitors:

This is your personal invitation to a yearlong celebration! The 2007 Bossier City Centennial Celebration will be the biggest party we have held since the year of our founding - 1907.

A year ago, this community-driven effort got underway with the Centennial Committee. Now, more and more Bossier City residents, business owners, employees and regional artists are involved in planning a variety of activities to represent the history, diversity, culture and education of our great community. We will need a lot more volunteers, however, to assure a successful yearlong celebration.

Bossier City will hold the “biggest” birthday party ever held in Bossier City on April 7, 2007. The party and celebration will take place at the Louisiana Boardwalk on the banks of the Red River, the founding site of Bossier City.

The Louisiana Boardwalk on the banks of the Red River will serve as the host site for the City’s Birthday celebration. The Celebration will begin the night of April 7, 2007, as the Officials of Bossier City toast the end of the first 100 years of progress and celebrate with beginning of the next 100 years.

The event will give the public an opportunity to meet Bossier City’s oldest living person, have a taste of the largest cake ever to be made in Bossier City, enjoy the food and festivities of the event. There will be a 100 square feet Birthday cake, which should give everyone in Bossier a taste. The event will host all of the living Mayors of Bossier City past City Officials and allow folks time to visit with them. Bossier City’s local high school bands will be on hand to celebrate our Birthday with plenty of good hometown music.

Our opening ceremony will be the beginning of a year’s events that will follow throughout the year, such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Barksdale Air Show, Bossier Arts Festival and the newest event to Bossier City, the Centennial Hot Air Balloon Rally. Planning efforts for these events and the entire year’s activities will allow Bossier City residents, business owners, employees and regional artists are involved in planning a variety of activities to represent the history, diversity, culture and education of our great community.

April 7th will open the celebration of the past 100 years with a special documentary film which will be shown to the public on a huge outdoor screen. After the showing of this special documentary film produced by Bossier Community College, the public will have an opportunity to see a movie under the stars by the Robinson Film Center.

To cap off the evening American Hot Air Balloon Escapes will offer the City of Bossier a spectacular Hot Air Balloon glow. This will then lead into the fall event in September, where Bossier City will host the Centennial Hot Air Balloon Rally at the Louisiana Boardwalk.
