Water Treatment

The Bossier City Water Treatment Plant was built in 1958. Originally designed to treat water as a lime softening plant, capacity was 16 million gallons a day. The Bossier facility is the only plant in the area that treats water from the Red River on a continual basis. Continued growth of the City and new regulations have posed unique challenges for treatment personnel to keep up with increased water demands. Plant modifications along with automation has allowed us to produce a good quality water for the past several years.

The facility is currently rated to operate at 25 million gallons a day. Recent additions include new raw water pumps, ozone treatment, clearwell and pumps, filters, computer process control, and a sludge treatment facility. We are currently in the process to expand treatment capabilities to meet future demands.

Plant personnel are responsible for raw water supply and protection, treatment, maintenance of equipment, raw water and high service pumps and four elevated storage towers.

The Water Plant is a member of the Partnership for Safe Drinking Water, sponsored by the EPA. The program is a self assessment program to improve operator training, treatment processes, operations and maintenance procedures and management practices to improve water quality. The Bossier Water Plant is the first facility in the state of Louisiana to receive the Directors Award for water quality excellence from the AWWA. The award validates the continued commitment of our employees to continually improve and produce the best quality water for our community and to meet and exceed all water quality regulations.

American Water Works Association or AWWA is affiliated with the Partnership for Safe Drinking Water Program.
